Dr. Kam Ghaffarian

Dr. Ghaffarian, is an entrepreneur, businessman, and philanthropist. He has created multiple successful companies in his 30-plus year career and has extensive experience working at the intersection of government contracting and technological innovation. His companies, including X-energy, have worked with NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Department of Energy, among others, on some of their most sensitive and technically advanced projects.

The key to Kam’s business success has been a focus on bringing technologies to market that will make the world a better place for future generations. His businesses are built on a foundation of integrity and providing the best technical solutions tailored to customer needs. He believes in creating work environments that promote employee well-being and help each person reach their full potential.  

An engineer by training, Kam has honed his skills as corporate strategist and marketer by building businesses across sectors from aerospace engineering to information technology to nuclear engineering, as well as several philanthropic initiatives.

Kam is also the founder of IBX, which reflects his innovation approach: Imagine, Believe, eXecute. These core ideas run through each of IBX’s companies and nonprofit organizations and express Kam’s determination to give back both to his community and country, as well as to those in need around the globe. supports national and commercial space exploration, and is developing the world’s first commercial space station.

X-energy
XE’s vision is to be the world’s leading provider of innovative, 100% safe, and environmentally friendly small-scale nuclear energy solutions for government, industry and private consumers. XE is commercializing and deploying a High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR): the Xe-100.

Philanthropic Initiatives

Limitless Space Institute
inspires and educates the next generation to travel beyond our solar system and to support future interstellar human space exploration.

Emerging Light Foundation
Supports and educates 700 underprivileged children in a school in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
               

Prior to founding X-energy, Kam founded Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT) in 1984. He grew the company to 2,000 employees with revenues exceeding $500M annually when he sold it in 2018. He was recognized by Ernst and Young for his contributions to the business community with its Entrepreneur of the Year award, which cited in particular his mentorship of other entrepreneurs and new business leaders.

Before founding SGT, Kam held management and technical positions with Lockheed Martin, Ford Aerospace and Loral Aerosys, among others. 

Kam earned two Bachelor of Science degrees, including a BS in Computer Science and Engineering and a BS in Electronics Engineering, a Master of Science in Information Management and a PhD in Management Information Systems.
